Whether you're a Norfolk branch hosting twenty regulars or an international branch pulling a hundred fans into a sports bar at 2am local time, the fundamentals are the same. Get the broadcast right, pick a venue that works, give people something to do beyond watching, and the room takes care of itself.
1. Broadcast and streaming rights
This is the part most new organisers underestimate. Showing a live football match in a commercial venue requires a valid commercial subscription — domestic pub subscriptions are not the same as a home Sky package.
- UK venues: confirm the venue holds an active Sky Sports Commercial and TNT Sports Business subscription covering the channel the fixture is on. Ask to see the current viewing card or invoice.
- International branches: use iFollow Ipswich for overseas live audio and video where broadcast restrictions allow, or your local rights-holder (e.g. Paramount+ / CBS, beIN, Optus, ESPN+ depending on territory).
- 3pm Saturday UK kick-offs: these are blacked out in the UK. Branches inside the UK should plan around the actual broadcast schedule rather than the league fixture list.
- ITFC.tv: some pre-season and cup ties may be available via the club's own service — check eligibility before promoting the event.
Never rely on a domestic streaming login projected onto a venue screen. It puts your branch and the venue at legal risk and can jeopardise your official status.
2. Choosing the right venue
A good watch party venue ticks five boxes:
- Screens and sound: at least one large screen everyone can see, ideally with commentary audible above general chatter.
- Capacity headroom: book for 80% of your expected RSVPs so latecomers and walk-ups still fit.
- Reserved area: a roped-off section or back room so members feel they have a "home end" rather than competing with other tables.
- Accessibility: step-free access, accessible toilets, and a quieter zone for members who need it.
- A manager who gets football: someone who'll turn the commentary up at kick-off without being asked.
3. Matchday run of show
A simple timetable keeps the day moving and gives hosts something to anchor to.
- KO − 60 min: Doors open, welcome desk, sell sweepstake squares.
- KO − 20 min: Branch welcome, new-member shout-outs, sweepstake draw.
- KO − 5 min: Lineups on screen, sound up.
- Half-time: Raffle, quick branch quiz, push membership sign-ups.
- Full-time: Sweepstake winners announced, group photo, share next fixture details.
4. Score predictor sweepstake kit
The single highest-engagement activity at a watch party is a score predictor sweepstake. It's quick to run, costs nothing to set up, gives everyone a reason to care about the scoreline, and works equally well in a Suffolk pub or a Sydney sports bar.
Use the print-and-go template below — copy it into a document, print one per attendee.

5. Fan engagement beyond the match
- Half-time raffle with a small branch-funded prize.
- A "new member of the month" shout-out from the organiser.
- Branch quiz on Town history during stoppages.
- Group photo at full time — post it to your branch announcements feed the same evening.
- QR code on every table linking to your branch page so walk-ups can join on the spot.
6. Promoting your watch party
Create the event in your branch dashboard, share it on this site, and add it to your social channels at least seven days in advance. Repeat the post 24 hours before kick-off with the venue address and what time doors open.
7. Safeguarding and Code of Conduct
Every branch event is covered by the Supporters Club Code of Conduct. Brief hosts on safeguarding expectations, make sure the venue has a named duty manager, and check our policies page before any event where under-18s will be present.
